Induction Brief; 'Resolve the How To'

Problems/challenges of being a new student.

. In groups came up with various challenges of being a new student

. Narrowed ideas down to most likely to occur
. Turned most relevant ideas into questions

My group (group 5) formed the question; 'how do i conduct a graphic design presentation to a new class?'

We had to commit to certain requirements in order to deliver a successful guide;
  • Who needs to know?
  • What/why do they needs to know?
  • How will you tell them?

INITIAL THOUGHTS....

Having considered our basic aims and principals, we now had to work out what to include in our product and how to structure/make it. We considered a credit card sized, fold out leaflet which was practical in mobility and size.

When folded out, however, the leaflet was difficult to handle and not so ergonomically friendly so we decided to maintain the size and concept but change the shape of fold to that of a concertina format.

 RESEARCH....

In order to fill the leaflet with relevant and useful information we had to find out what we were talking about.
Glossophobia: (speech anxiety) is the fear of public speaking/speaking in general.

some research Danielle found:

She showed a lot of interest, also, in Information Graphics and i studied this form of design a lot last year so we decided to go with that sort of theme for our composition and format.

DESIGN/PRODUCING...

Due to their abilities in using Illustrator Danielle, Sarah and Jordan did most of the design work. I helped Jordan with some minor aspects of a few designs aswel. We felt simplicity of form was the key to success and we wanted our leaflet to be visually pleasing and helpful while not overcrowding it with imagery.

Facebook Page: Feedback

After agreeing on our final design plan, but before production, we were asked to do a two way Crit with another group in order to receive some initial feedback from people who were, essentially, our target audience.
Crit Feedback.

After we had finished our product and presentation to the class we were asked to complete a self evaluation form in order to realise our own efforts and room for improvements.

overall, i really enjoyed the project and felt it tought me a lot about working in a group (co-operation, commitment, sacrifice and compromise) and informed me in new methods and ideas. i feel as though my personal commitment could have been stronger yet this was partially due to the group dynamic. however, my idea generation and designs still could have been produced to a greater extent. i feel as though our answer to the brief was successful and, as a group, we worked well and completed the brief well.
