OUGD403. Message and Delivery: Research.

from the research ive gathered about the fareshare food soucing campaign and charity and the subsequent info collected about homelessness, poverty, hunger, food waste and supermarket waste the next task is to design 3 high impact posters that deliver a personal identified message devived from my research. one poster can only be type based, another image based, and the other a mix of both. i can only use two colours plus stock and it should be in A3 scale.

having obtained an extensive amount of research i was given this form to fill out to indicate what i would do next and why/how.

from this i proceeded to narrow down my research in to workable facts, figures, ideas, opinions and concepts.

decided upon certain messages and ideas i wanted to communicate or portray. because all the topics of interest were interlinked i had a lot of different things i could have focussed on.

from theses initial considerations and ideas i began to think about the content of my posters in more depth and what each one may entail.

i found it quite difficult to think of copy that would appropriately communicate the messages that i could at this point potentially focus on.

i think, although interesting, a lot of my initial designs were a bit over detailed, especially for a poster.

as my designs got became more focussed i gained a better understanding of what it was i was trying to communicate. i think at this point my ideas are still a bit too detailed but  i like where my focus is going.

a suitable and interesting copy that successfully portrays my message was still a difficult thing to think about and i feel as though my focus was still somewhat unclear. i do feel, however, that my consideration for composition at this stage will assist me in later designs.

some of these designs are more to my liking but i want to get the message across in a more effective way than scaring people or just presenting the horrors of homelessness and hunger.

having narrowed my designs down i began to focus on the idea of fruit being the 'bad guy' and infront of a police line up board like it was being suspected by a picky shopper who would only buy perfect fruit or veg. so its like the best pear is being identified alongside some other less aesthetically appealing ones.

having considered colour a lot i was still unsure of how to progress in that aspect. i should have considered what appropriate colours would represent food waste.

the text and image poster was also difficult to consider and i didnt really think about the fact that i could just put the image and text only posters together, instead i was trying to be original with each one but this may not have payed off.

im happy with the final design of just text poster because its a strong phrase that most people know and understand that hold great significance to my themes and ideas. i like my use of type although it may seem a bit random i think its quite effective.

the text and image poster i was somewhat pleased with and think it portrays the message but could be slightly confusing if one didnt know the topic. the two halves of apples may also be confused with other things.

my just image poster was, in my opinion, somewhat successful because it does portray the message i want to convey but the shapes may not be recognised as fruits and the intent of the poster may not be clear.

overall i think i made a compotent effort to the design and consideration of design of the 3 posters. it can be said however that some of my ideas are a bit random and unexplained and so the intent of the posters may be confusing or indecipherable.
