OUGD504. Design Production. Design for Print and Web.

as part of the introduction to the new project we were asked to write down 5 points to a number of questions or considerations. this was useful in establishing what i know about the subjest and what i dont.

from this i went on to consider the reason for the project and what could justify the sort of content i wanted to involve. i decided to use the design setting of a government campaign aimed at spreading awareness about plants and what plants do for the world and how sustainability is an important consideration in the urban environment.

from the crit i learned that it would be a good idea to have a staggered campaign and involve timed releases for different parts of the campaign.

i wanted the campaign to be simple and light hearted and try to encourage people to have a more self imposed interest in supporting plants and nature.

hvaing tried a number of ideas i decided on a logo and did it up in illustrator.
the identity uses harabara as a heading font and coolvetica for body copy. the two hue colour combination is present throughout and uses tones for varying colour.

i did some sketches for visuals i thought bould be included as representation of the themes invoved in the campaign.

while the concept makes sense the aesthetic style is different from the simplicity of the rest of the campaign and i wanted to maintain that to get the message across better and so decided not to use these.

i wanted to try and achieve a visual connection between the concepts and messages of the campaign and the topic (plants and sustainability) and so i used some photographic designs of cut up leaves in the shape of the topic of the poster.

the aim of the printed campaign was to try and involve plants into the inner city lifestyle. i wanted to find ways to encourage people to get plants and recognise the various uses for and benefits of plants. i tried to maintain a light hearted and conversational tone of voice so that the audience would be more accepting and likely to take on board the message or encouragements.

i also put the posters into a real life scenareo to depict their imopact in the field.

as part of the printed side of my project i designed and made business cards and letterhead for the campaign department. the set works to maintain the same look as the campaign but tries to involve more of a professional finish to be appropriate to its use.

in terms of the web side of the project i decided to do a website and app to mobile device site. the website includes a homepage which offers general information and updated aspects of the campaign with realtime links.

the about page explains the campaign and its aims and what is intended the auedience recieves from the site and campaign.

the plants page offers more in depth and technical information about plants and their benefits and what humanity gains from plants and botony.

the ideas page offeres tips and advice about growing plants and keeping plants and what you can gain from the different types of plants available. it also aims to offer adivce and information about sustainable living and how this can be achieved in the inner city.

the links page offers the audience a chance to pursure further research and understanding in terms of the campaign and its aims and tpoical connections.

on top of this the mobile device version of the site offers the sae basic information but formatted to phones and other hand held devices. the app offers a link to the mobile site.

i think that while my understanding of the topics involved in the project are quite extensiuve and while i understood the design needs of the campaign in order to be successful, my time management and cronology of work was not on point and my lack of organisation i think impacted on my work heaviloy.
i really enjoyed this project as it gave me a chance to explore themes that i have a personal interest in and it gave me room to explore my ability to form an identity and material for a campaign.
